Guardian deity
There is often a pair of guardian deity statue on either side of the entrance gate in a temple of Japan.
The right statue is called "阿形(Agyō)" and has his mouth open. And the left statue is called "吽形(Ungyō)" and has his mouth tightly shut.
These two guardian deity statues, called "金剛力士(Kongōrikishi)" or "仁王(Niō)".
